I’m on day 3 of my Juice Cleanse where I am mainly just drinking vegetable and fruit based juice in replacement of all solid food.

I have AMAZING energy so far. I actually have more energy now than I did before I started its pretty great. I have my story above in the video but here are a few of my juices with the ingredients I added in them:

I was going to buy a bunch of green SUJA Juiceoptions for when I’m on the go but they are $9 a bottle rounding up….then I remembered Whole Foods Market has freshly made green juice for 9.99 for a half gallon.

I bought this as well as “Just Beet it” by Whole Foods which consists of carrots, beets and oranges.

I always talk about this quote above. I like to use this for my shopaholic friends….”No one cares what you’re wearing because everyone is too busy worrying about what they look like…we are all so self-involved and even when you try to impress everyone…just remember they are probably doing the same thing”

That idea of exterior beauty really helped me. I no longer spend money on clothes to make me happy or really anything materialistic based. I have mainly clothes from H&M, which are just the basics, I wear my same riding boots way too often and when I spend my money, it’s on a good pair of running shoes or workout clothes. I realize that whatever I wear, no one will ever remember. Same goes with makeup (thank god I don’t need much) but I feel like the more you wear, the more insecure you are with who you truly are.

I went off topic. This day was devoted to not caring what people think. It’s really quite silly that I can be confident in the whole “not need to dress to impress unless absolutely necessary” but I’m too scared to do the battle ropes in front of the class. I don’t know why I’ve never even tried them before and to most people, they are simple and kind of self explanatory but the one thing that holds me back is my darn ego. Our ego is usually the blame to everything we hold back from! My ego didn’t want me to go up there, do it wrong or not be strong enough to keep up….I would be humiliated.

Isn’t that sad? It’s such a simple thing, and once you try it, its nothing. Our minds sometimes create a life that is very small because it builds these walls of safety to keep us from ever feeling pain or humiliation…but in return, we get lack of growth.

I’ve talked about Bassline Fitness on here before; it’s my go-to for fat burning happiness. It’s a dark room with spin bikes, treadmills, crank machines, row machines and battle ropes. There are two huge projection screens in the front of class that play music videos and up beat house/rock/pop songs and you leave just covered in sweat. The battle ropes are in the very front of class between the front row and the projection screens. I waited till the very last minute in class and Brie finally said, “Tiare you have to do them! Lets go” and then she shared it and did it with me:) So grateful for my friend Brie! She made it not as scary and so much fun! I didn’t realize how hard they were! Anyway, now that I’ve faced this mini-challenge, I can do them in class without thinking to avoid them! It’s funny that once we face our fears, big or small, we actually begin to lose our fear of it. Life goes full circle when we allow things to get uncomfortable. That is what I learned last night. I am so glad that I chose November as my month to face my fears because its getting me ready for the new year, where my resolution is to be fearless and be GREAT!

Someday I hope this will be true. We are from it living here in America. We live for our medications. We eat like pigs, drink like alcohol isn’t poison to the body, and consume things without a thought of where it came from or how it is processed. We live in a GMO-infested world with little to fear of our future of this lifestyle. I am at a point in my life where I eat to help my heart and body last longer with little pain in the future. I am trying to eat things in its most raw form, I’m trying to cut out dairy wherever I can, meat is gone but I am trying to fit in more plant-based protein to make sure my workouts don’t suffer.

 

I have a friend who used to tell me that the way to help cure cancer is by first and foremost, going to a plant based diet along with other things…this comment stuck in my head because I find myself thinking about it all the time. The biggest thing I got from this is….if going plant based is a way to help rid your body of cancer…why not start now? Why wait till I am completely broken in order to fix myself? Going plant based while healthy should only help maintain my health.

I believe the best way to prevent an unhealthy, short life is going plant based (to an extent) and a variety of exercise to help every part of your body. I believe in variety because doing anything in excess causes pain or injury…I believe that we need to alternate everything in order to have the best results.

I bought a Nutribullet of my own today and couldn’t be happier. I can’t wait to try some fantastic smoothies. I feel that rather than going to the doctor for every little thing, we need to look at who we are and what we do and how we eat. Literally write it down. Pay attention, even to your emotional states and everything in between. One big thing we forget to look at is our alcohol consumption. Remember that you are not invincible and you have the ability to enjoy food for what is truly is…and life for what it truly is:) you don’t always have to mask it with unhealthy relationships, sugar, salt, and alcohol or pills.

It’s crazy what a difference a couple years makes right? To your left you have someone who lived for the weekends, got involved in partying way too much, and didn’t really love herself fully. Popped things like Oxyelite and worked out with various supplements that are just poison to the body while eating shitty food and did 30-minute cardio/no weights a few times a week at the gym thinking I was healthy. To the right, you have the person I am today. I eat mostly plant based, I’m active in yoga, running, and other exercises and currently about a month sober. I refuse to go back to my past. I am here today, facing fears and uncomfortable circumstances that I must face head on and just know that in the back of my mind, everything will be okay and I will never be the person I once was.

 

Where do you begin in changing your life?

Often people look for what the best weight loss pill is and some people even starve themselves thinking that it will help them lose weight while they wonder why they keep gaining weight. It’s funny how ridiculous our inner demons make us. We are all so sick, thinking there is a shortcut to a healthy life.

 

There is no shortcut but it’s very simple.

  • Eat Clean!
  • Set Goals!
  • Work your ASS off!

I’m currently training for my first 13.1 half marathon in December! I’m so excited and my lovely fellow blogger-friend Christian is helping me with running plans. I’ve been a little wishy-washy at the beginning of everything but I know ill get back into it soon! Lately I’ve been just running 3-4 miles a few times a week on top of my other training workouts. I know I must improve my Sunday long runs and I’m determined this Sunday to get that in. Besides running I’m still going to yoga. I have tendonitis so its been frustrating not being able to be 100% in my power classes…but I’ve been letting go of my ego and just showing up to do my best with modification. This afternoon I did a restorative yoga class, which was amazing before my run; I needed the long stretching since running has been a lot more prominent in my weeks.

 

This brings me to the next topic!

I have a new idol. I mean serious, he is absolutely amazing and I read his entire book in a couple days. His name is Rich Roll and he is a total freaking badass ultramarathon-running-sober-vegan. His book is called Finding Ultra and he is a bundle of inspiration for me! When I run, I think about everything he went through in his life, and it makes me push forward and keep going. The fact that he is vegan and sober helps me compare stories. A lot of what he went through in the legal division is similar to my rough past. I have also been slowly dipping into the plant based lifestyle since June 14(when I went to yoga school) and I am also just amazed my ultrathon’s in general. I feel like it takes a beast to get through something like that…I can’t even imagine. He also met his wife in yoga class! He saw her, fell in love, and talks about how she is his soul mate and she helped him get healthy. It’s just really inspiring especially because he only bought a bike 3 years prior to his first triathlon and he really changed his entire life around relatively quickly.  It just goes to show how much you can improve if you keep your eyes on your goals.

I love the way Michelle Obama stated that quote. Isn’t it true? We American’s loooove our quick fixes, we love vegging out in front of the television absorbing all the advertisements that we don’t even realize we are seeing. We are constantly consumed by an unhealthy lifestyle and we are consumed by the “easy way out”. I notice that when I talk about healthy eating in general on my blog, I get a few interactions but when I say “Juice Cleanse!!!” or “New Diet” or “Paleo Challenge”, “AdvoCare Challenge!” or anything else amongst all that, I get a whole heap load of chatter asking what I’m doing, how do I like it, did I see results, and people get really excited. I think this is because most people don’t want to change their lifestyles to just inheriting the idea of simple, clean eating. We want drastic change in a short period of time. So I love that quote because this is the reason I blog, I want to spread healthy change to anyone, even if it’s just one person. I want to be able to change someone’s life and help them live a long, full, healthy happy life and have this spread to others to initiate change.

Just know that I like to try everything to see if anything becomes something I want to adapt in my everyday life. If I find something worth sharing, I will write about it here. I did the whole Paleo thing for a long time and I’ve done a lot challenges…but this is who I am today:

  • I eat bread maybe once a day or less. I see any kind of bread/starchy substance as LAST RESORT but I don’t want it to be part of my main diet.
  • I eat a LOT of vegetables…lots of kale and arugula for almost every single meal.
  • I start every morning with one organic egg, veggies, fruit and half an avocado.
  • I have been meat free for 3 weeks now with a couple times testing if I wanted meat….then deeply regretted it and haven’t had it since.
  • I don’t eat ice cream anymore:(
  • I don’t eat cheese unless its goat cheese (only on occasion).
  • And as of a yesterday, I’ve introduced Suja Juice into my life!

Okay I’m finally here, to the point of my blog title:) I know some of you have been wanting to know about my mini-juice cleanse so It’s a good thing I had a little daily diary going with times and everything!

Here’s a little “Cleanse Directions” straight from their website:

Before the Cleanse

A couple of days prior to beginning your cleanse, it is a good idea to start eliminating coffee, alcohol, dairy, red meat, sugar, and white flour and bread products. Maximizing fruits, vegetables, and whole grains will make the transition into your cleanse much easier!

During the Cleanse

On the morning of your first day, alkalize your body with a warm glass of water with lemon and/or a tablespoon apple cider vinegar. A little while later, when your body feels the need for something more, begin with your juices for the day. They will be consumed as follows:

During the day, stay hydrated with water, teas, and even additional juices if you’d like.

What if I MUST eat something?!

For best results, it is recommended to stick to the juices. However, if you are active, pregnant, or just plain hungry, that’s ok! The safest foods to consume are raw fruits and veggies, half an avocado, a baked sweet potato, or broth-based soups.

After the Cleanse

Your body has been hard at work detoxifying and resting your digestive tract. You want to ease it back into its normal function by introducing gentle foods first. Your first meals should be smoothies, soups, salads, and veggies, or lighter proteins like beans or steamed fish. With each meal, gradually re-introduce heavier foods one at a time to give your body a chance to catch up. Be mindful and carry the way you feel after your cleanse into your everyday life by making wiser food choices going forward.

 

Here was my Suja Cleanse Story:

5:45am-Usually I have apple cider vinegar in my first 3-4 water bottles of the day and in this case, I woke up late, took the apple cider vinegar and chugged a shot before juice#1, which was ‘Glow’. This was my first mistake. I haven’t had a shot of ACV first thing in the morning…well ever…and my mistake was not having water involved. Whoops….so here we go, driving to work sipping on Glow. I became nauseas. All I could taste was burning ACV in my throat with each gulp haha. I got to work and wanted real food and held back. The taste of glow was a lot better then I thought.

 

7:30am-I want another juice, or food, or anything. I realized that I am a creature of habit…and obviously orally fixated to getting my normal solid food in the morning, my body is confused. I gave in and had a slice of avocado. Then I was fine:) (Avocado is on the safe list)

 

8:30am-time for ‘Fuel’ and my nausea went away THANK GOD! Let’s just point out how much I hate carrots. I hate everything about them, it is probably the only food I steer clear of and refuse to eat. Here I am, drinking Fuel, which has carrots as the main ingredient. It’s not bad, its actually really good and I drank it fast. I am not saying I will rush out to buy it again but it was not bad.

 

11:00am- time for ‘Purify’. Purify also has carrots but now added with beets and this was probably the only one I would not buy again. It was okay but I noticed something interesting by 11am…I am FULL OF ENERGY. I mean crazy amounts more than I’ve ever had from coffee or tea. I was practically bouncing off the walls probably from all the natural sugar. Either way, this cleanse did NOT make me crave caffeine.

 

2:30pm- time for ‘Fiji’ and completely content. At this point in the day I’m driving home from work and realize I am very content but also bloated I don’t know why….maybe my body is confused by all the alien-carrots digesting in my body. Fiji is tasty though; it is apples, celery, cucumber, spinach, kale, collard greens, lemon and ginger. Absolutely delish! I head to a movie with my best friend and face the smell of popcorn and hot dogs…oh my, that was hard staying away.

 

6:00pm- Time for ‘Green Supreme’ and my body is already craving it. I LOVE THIS ONE BEST. So good, who knew I would think a green smoothie was this delicious!? I drank it quick and have no cravings for solid food.

 

8:00pm- time for dessert and it’s the ‘Vanilla Cloud’ flavor. It tasted like dessert, filled with coconut, almonds, honey and deliciousness. I could drink this anytime. At this point in the day I realize I only drank about 3-4 cups of water:( It was hard to fit in because I felt like I was always drinking juice! Either way I feel fantastic.

Today is the day after and here is what happened:

I woke up so excited for my normal egg and veggie breakfast, then for snack I had half a piece of rye toast with some honeydew, for lunch I had a huge arugula salad with cherry tomatoes and goat cheese and green beans and macron almonds, for snack I had a cappuccino Larabar. Now what did I want for dinner? Suja Juice! I had been craving it all day so after my workout I headed straight to Whole Foods and purchased a few of my favorites and had it for dinner. I want to try and replace at least one meal a day with juice whether its Suja or something I make at home. It gives you so much energy and I feel like my skin is GLOWING today. I also stocked up on some great veggies for the week and am excited for staying healthy. Sorry for the long rant of a blog entry this evening:)

Hello everyone! Happy Saturday! I am updating a quick little post before I head off to Whole Foods! I woke up the other morning wanting to start something new! Since I’ve been back from yoga training, my diet has completely changed and I want to really get into my meals a bit more. I want more creativity.

This morning I started off with an organic scrambled egg mixed with red and green peppers, shitake mushrooms and spinach with a side of arugula and half an avocado. I then had a cup of berries (blueberries and strawberries). A few hours later, I had a piece of peanut butter bread for snack (I had to!). Then for lunch I had a huge spinach/mixed greens salad topped with cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, peppers, green beans and some hummus!

So here is what’s going to happen for the next coming week starting tomorrow.

Tomorrow I’m starting a 1-day Suja Juice Cleanse. I haven’t tried it before but I keep seeing posts about it so I’ll give it a try. Then this morning I looked up a list of all the local farmers markets by the day to hit up for my weekly meals! I am really excited about this because I want to eat more fresh organic food, and a LOT more of it. So what’s better then shop from our farmers markets?

Anyway here is the Cleanse. It’s only one day but it shouldn’t be hard:

You drink these flavors in order in the list below and you can drink water all day with them. Start Glow as your first meal. When finished wait a couple hours before the next. Don’t consume solid food unless absolutely necessary then you can have broth based soup or something small. No caffeine or sugar. I opted for the 1-Day cleanse because i just want to try it out and if i like it, i think i will try the 3-day cleanse in a week or two. So here are the flavors…

  • Glow: green apple, cucumber, celery, collards, spinach, kale, spearmint
  • Fuel: carrot, apple, pineapple, orange, lemon, turmeric
  • Purify: carrot, apple, celery, cucumber, lemon, beet
  • Fiji: apple, celery, cucumber, spinach, kale, collard greens, lemon, ginger
  • Green Supreme: kale, green apple, lemon
  • Vanilla Cloud: almond milk, coconut milk, vanilla bean, honey, filtered water

Each bottle is packed with 2-3 pounds worth of fruit and vegetables and are all cold pressed. You wait 2-3 hours in between each bottle. I am just doing the day cleanse to jump start my week of fruit and veggie farmer market eats! It will be fun and I will let you all know how the day goes:) Happy summer!

Eating healthy doesn’t need to be expensive or stressful. You don’t need the finest cooking skills either! So not to fret, I’ve compiled a list to take to your nearby grocery store. You also don’t need to go to the “fanciest” natural grocery stores because there are places like Trader Joe’s, which are great and affordable. I love Trader Joe’s over all the others. When I say you don’t need the best cooking skills, I say this because eating clean is the ability to enjoy food in the most simple, natural state. All added sauces, salt, and sugar are just added calories that need to be diminished from your diet in order to see some results.

  • Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breast
  • Tuna (water packed)
  • Fish (salmon, sea bass, halibut)
  • Shrimp
  • Extra Lean Ground Beef or Ground Round (92-96%)
  • Venison

  • Top Round Steaks or Roast (aka Stew Meat, London Broil, Stir Fry)

  • Coconut Oil-I use this every time I cook. You may use Olive Oil or something else but I always use coconut. It’s one of the things I’ve kept as a constant since going semi-Paleo
  • Balsamic Vinegar
  • Olive Oil
  • ALMOND BUTTER
  • Dijon Mustard
  • Horseradish-my FAV. On any meat
  • Cinnamon
  • Dry mustard
  • Chia Seeds
  • Oregano
  • Basil
  • Bay leaves
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Chili powder
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Black Ground Pepper

 

LIQUIDS

  • Almond/Coconut Milk (these are the only two I buy but mainly Almond)
  • WATER WATER WATER!
  • Tea/Coffee
  • Anything other than these, steer clear! If you are craving juice, eat fruit. Stay away from Soda’s and any other empty carbs. I also stay away from energy drinks and things like Gatorade. If you want a boost, my favorite electrolyte mix is called “Ultima Replenisher”. It’s a Godsend and a must have. It has no sugar or acids and has a variety of vitamins and minerals and gives you an energy boost. It also comes in a variety of flavors and you can buy it online or when I really need it, I just pick it up at Super Supplements.
  • Vodka/Wine-if you must have a drink, stick to these two only.

If you noticed, there isn’t a section for dairy. I stay away from dairy as much as possible since it is basically all fat. Remember to have vegetables as much as possible and use carbohydrates sparingly. When it comes to your sweet tooth, stick to dark chocolate. For me, I love mixing frozen berries with a banana, and topping it with some almond butter with a splash of almond milk. It keeps my ice cream cravings away. Have fun shopping!
